A girl on her first cruise vacation underwent a pricy medical evacuation from Honduras after she confronted a catastrophic genital injury.
Louisiana resident Kristen Lindsey was taking part in a shore tour in Honduras when a rope swing went horribly incorrect, as a retrieval line needed to be improperly linked to the swing, in accordance to her boyfriend, Blake.
Blake defined that the road out of the blue tightened proper earlier than Lindsey dropped, and he or she had a “catastrophic saddle injury.”
Lindsey, who was on the third day of her cruise, apparently didn’t realize the extent of the injury at the time, thinking it was a minor scratch, and returned to the Carnival cruise ship.
As the hours went by, she faced increased swelling and pain, and her injury swelled to the size of a baseball, News Nation reports.

Lindsey’s mother, Tara, said she spent over 12 hours in the ship’s medical bay, and the couple was told to evacuate to Costa Maya, since it was the nearest airport.
Blake said he called 911 from the ship, and Kirsten was rushed to the vessel’s medical center, where she was treated for several hours.
Before departing the ship, the couple had to pay approximately $4,000 out of pocket for medical treatment.
As Lindsey’s condition deteriorated, they were given three options to remain in the ship’s medical facility for the remainder of the cruise, go to a hospital in Mexico, or find their way back to the U.S., or arrange an emergency air evacuation back to the United States, the outlet reported.
Blake told the outlet that the evacuation cost $50,000, with $20,000 for leaving Costa Maya and $30,000 for returning to the United States.

“We chose the air evacuation because we believed it was the best way to get Kirsten the care she needed,” Blake mentioned.
After hours of delay, Lindsey was taken to the airport by ambulance and boarded a private medical jet that flew her to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She was then taken to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where she underwent her first surgery.
The couple’s vacation went awry, resulting in thousands of dollars in medical bills, travel expenses, lost income, and the added hurdle of returning home to Louisiana.
After Lindsey returned to Louisiana, she continued receiving treatment at CHRISTUS Highland Medical Center.
She is currently undergoing a second surgery as she continues her recovery from the injuries sustained during the excursion.
The household has set up a GoFundMe account as Lidnesy continues her path to restoration.
