Hundreds ‘vomiting’ with ‘diarrhea’ from cruise ship norovirus outbreak – Cruises – Travel


More than 225 passengers throughout two separate luxurious cruise traces have contracted norovirus, in accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Scores of visitors and crew members on Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2 and Seven of Seabourn Encore’s ships have come down with the sickness amid their present voyages. Those who’ve contracted the disagreeable sickness have reported gastrointestinal signs corresponding to vomiting, stomach cramping and diarrhea.

There have been 12 outbreaks of gastrointestinal illness on cruises which have necessitated bulletins from the premier health company. Ten out of the 12 circumstances concerned norovirus, also called the abdomen flu.

The CDC experiences that 183 of 2,538 visitors and 14 crew members on the Cunard ship and 7 of 481 visitors and 22 crew members on the Seabourn ship are sick.

All ailing passengers have been quarantined whereas health personnel monitor them, officers stated.

“We are continuing to closely monitor the guests and, as a precaution, completed a comprehensive deep clean of the ship and immediately activated our enhanced health and safety protocols, which are proving to be effective.”

Similarly, a Seabourn spokesperson stated that each one of its “cases were mild and quickly resolved” whereas detailing its plans to help sick passengers whereas defending the others.

“We initiated enhanced sanitation protocols in conjunction with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to minimize further transmission, including continuous disinfection of the ship. The health and safety of our guests and team members are our highest priorities,” the Seabourn spokesperson stated.
